Limiting beliefs are the mental roadblocks that hold us back from achieving our fullest potential. These beliefs, often deeply ingrained from childhood, shape our self-perception and our view of the world. They can keep us from accomplishing our health and business goals, fostering a cycle of self-doubt and stagnation. In this blog, I will share my journey of overcoming limiting beliefs supported by Bible scripture and invite you to join a community where we can grow together.

Understanding Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs are false convictions that restrict us in some way. They often form from past experiences, cultural norms, or negative feedback received over time. These beliefs can manifest in various ways, such as:

1. Fear of Failure: "I'm not good enough to succeed."

2. Fear of Rejection: "People won't like me if I show my true self."

3. Fear of Success: "If I succeed, I won't be able to handle the pressure."

The Formation of Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs often form in childhood when we are most impressionable. For instance, if you were repeatedly told that you were not smart enough or capable, you might internalize these messages and carry them into adulthood. This is where the Word of God becomes a powerful tool in reshaping our mindset.

Overcoming Limiting Beliefs Through Faith

The Bible provides profound wisdom on overcoming limiting beliefs. One of the most potent scriptures is Romans 12:2, which says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." This verse emphasizes the importance of renewing our minds and shedding the patterns of thinking that the world imposes on us.

Another key scripture is Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." This verse reminds us that we can overcome any limiting belief and achieve our goals with Christ's strength.

My Personal Journey

I have faced numerous limiting beliefs throughout my life. As a recovering people-pleaser, I struggled to set boundaries and often carried the weight of others' expectations on my shoulders. This led to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt, which hindered me from fully stepping into my potential.

In 2019, I hit a breaking point. The weight of my limiting beliefs became unbearable, and I found myself on my knees, praying for God's guidance. I have been on the journey of healing ever since. In 2021, through regular therapy sessions I requested through the Veteran’s Administration, I was led to begin Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). The end of that year was so heavy that I still found myself not wanting to wake up anymore. At that moment, I decided not to allow life to get to me anymore. It was time I began to value myself and see myself as God sees me. I took a break from therapy and focused on my spiritual journey. However, I still found myself self-sabotaging and hitting a wall when things should have been going in the upward direction. In 2024, a good friend and spiritual advisor recommended another modality called Neuro Emotional Technique (NET). I am still going through this one with a fantastic therapist who is helping me confront and reprocess my trauma, allowing me to break free from my limiting beliefs truly. This journey isn’t for everyone, but all my faith is in God and I know He wins all the battles the enemy tries to place in front of us.

Transformative Power of Faith

My faith has been the cornerstone of my journey. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." This scripture gave me hope and reassurance that God's plans for me were more significant than my limiting beliefs.

Through prayer, therapy, and a supportive community, I saw myself as capable, worthy, and enough through God's eyes. This transformation allowed me to pursue my passion for coaching and helping others overcome their limiting beliefs.

Jodi Watkins

My name is Jodi Watkins. I am flawed. I am perfectly imperfect. I have made tons of mistakes. I can’t take any of my past back. I can’t go back in time. However, what I can do now is operate in my gifts, share truths, create awareness, and support/encourage those around me who may feel alone. We all have a story. Opening up is a process. It’s a journey. It comes from creating a trusting relationship. It doesn’t happen overnight. I am a true testimony that when we allow the right people in our lives, we are able to break barriers we may not even know existed. I used writing as a way to heal and I now use this gift to help others in a way I never imagined possible. My desire is to collaborate with like-minded individuals in order to create a better world for the next generation. Please share this website with anyone you know who may be interested in linking up. Together, we can always do more!
